This has got to be Chilliwack's little jewel. Merle's has one of the most extensive gluten free menus out there. They can pretty much make everything into a gluten free dish. Who would know you could find great gluten free food tucked away here in Chilliwack?
I spoke to Merle about the brands she uses to substitute for GF and here follows that information. This place has so much variety its amazing.
Their dishes are made using the following brands:
Food for life- Sprouted corn tortillas, brown rice tortillas -- used for enchiladas, quesadillas, tostadas and wraps.
Food For Life Breads: Almond rice, Pecan rice, Multiseed, Brown rice
Kinnikinnick: Sunflower flax, Honey brown and yeast free, Tapioca white
Galaxy International: Italian cheese and cheddar cheese (lactose free and soya free)
Tinkyada pastas
Earth balance margarine
Merles offers gluten free sandwiches, wraps, quesadillas, burgers and these are just a few of the options. Merles has a separate gluten free prep area with separate tools and ingredients. The kitchen is safe from contamination and you can enjoy a worry-free meal. It is a few extra dollars to make a meal gluten free.
I ordered the chicken quesadilla with mango. I have tried quesadillas at probably every restaurant out there (including the ones that contain gluten - before I was diagnosed of course). This is by far the best quesadillas I have ever tasted.
They have a dedicated fryer and so their fries are gluten free as well.
Great local restaurant, friendly service and you can tell this place has a loyal customer following as the place is usually packed.
