Our Town Cafe

It has been a while since we explored Vancouver for gluten free options, so my sister, mum and I took a day trip and visited a few gluten free cafe's.

Our Town Cafe is located on 245 E Broadway - Vancouver, BC. It is located on the corner of Broadway and Kingsway. Some great highlights about this cafe include free wireless internet, vegan/gluten free options and organic coffees.

We discovered this place while browsing Gluten Free Epicurean's website. This cafe serves a sampling of the products that she makes. We got a chance to try the nanaimo bar, vegan date square, no oatmeal fudge bar and pumpkin bread. Other gluten free options that the cafe offers but did not get a chance to try include double chocolate cookies, chewy ginger cookies, lemon poppy seed loaf, chocolate zucchini loaf and sausage rolls - all made by Gluten Free Epicurean.

We found the Nanaimo bar to be phenomenal. I am not a huge fan of Nanaimo bars normally, but I did enjoy this one. In fact this was our favorite. The fudge bar was just ok in my opinion but my sister liked it. I felt it was a little hard and mostly just enjoyed the middle fudge layer. My mum thought the date square was good although she found it contained less dates and a bit too much sugar for her taste. The pumpkin bread was not too sweet or rich; it was lightly spiced with a nice crumb and texture.

The prices were reasonable. The cafe is fairly large and has a ton of seating (very cozy). The atmosphere is relaxed with many people doing homework, reading the newspaper or simply enjoying their cup of joe.
